We believe that it is our responsibility to create an environment that fosters a lifelong love of learning. We have centered our curriculum on several basic principles of child development. Starting with our unique mixed-age group environment, Loving and Learning prides itself in providing our children with an abundance of age appropriate activities (individual and group) specifically designed to develop social & emotional skills, language & reading readiness, gross & fine motor skills and the basic skills necessary for school.
To support this curriculum, we implement daily activities which allow children to master several basic skills while advancing at their own pace. Children are invited to take charge of their learning, by making choices at centers and with project work. This sense of “ownership” and self-direction is the foundation for lifelong learning. This practice enables each child to develop the self-worth and confidence that is crucial when fostering a yearning for knowledge. Our objective is to provide a social and stimulating environment, while also making available the resources necessary to succeed. By doing this, children feel comfortable taking on new challenges, and can master skills of multiple intelligence, problem solving and critical thinking. Our curriculum not only places a large emphasis in teaching children to think and do for themselves, but also to understand methods and theories behind our teachings. The goal with this objective is to understand the “why” and “how,” as opposed to “rote” learning, where children can only do a task one way, because that is the one way which they were taught.
